Question: Discuss about the Stress and Its Impacts at Workplace. Answer: Stress can be defined as state of mind which is developed under the pressure of extremely demanding situation at work place. Work related stress Work related stress is caused by the tension that arises from deterioration of work situation and inability of a person to adopt that situation (Hassard et al. 2018). Excessive demand of job which does not fit into the comfort level of a worker, uncertainty about the security and stability of job, conflict between workers and managers, constant changes in the pattern of work, lack of opportunities can also be referred as work related stress. The work related stress also includes harassments which can be in form of sexual harassment or bullying a person. The impacts of work related stress can cause mismanagement at work place .It can also decrease the productivity of workers and can increase the issue of absenteeism and lack of motivation among workers (Hassard et al. 2018).Work related stress can damage the good will of the organization. Non Work related stress Stress which does not its source at work place can be defined as non-work related stress. Family problems or financial problems or health related problems can create a stressful situation for a worker (Peckham, Hajat and Seixas 2016). Social disorientation can also lead a person to a stressful situation. Non-work related stress can make a worker inattentive at the workplace which can decrease that persons productivity (Peckham, Hajat and Seixas 2016). It also affects the mental stability of a worker and behavioral issues of that person at workplace may arise. This type of stress can also undermine the work-life balance.
